Abstract

|
Amendment bill to Bioethics and Safety Act was recently proposed by Ministry of Health and Welfare of South Korea. Because Bioethics and Safety Act is the fundamental law which reflects the way how South Korean society accepts biomedical technology and its risk, it is important for Korean bioethics society to discuss the meaning and impact of the recent bill. Bioethics and Safety Act focuses mainly on problems in genetics over its 9 chapters and 55 articles, recent amendment includes several revised provisions concerning the ethics and risks of genetics. The purpose of this study is to explain why the provisions in Bioethics and Safety Act were interpreted by the risk stage of biotechnology, and what revisions were made in genetic provisions by amendment.
